Client ALM Manager

The Client ALM Manager will be part of the Client ALM function within the Client & Pensions team. The Client ALM Manager performs analysis on the pension provisions, funding, discount rates and investment strategies in order to assess the effects of potential changes. The analysis is provided to the management of Investment Business, pension committees and boards in order to support recommendations. It includes:

  • design and develop ALM statistics and modelling output to support journey planning and investment strategy considerations
  • use ALM analysis to assess employer valuation proposals and evaluate their suitability.
    The Client ALM Manager collaborates closely with the Client & Pensions team, the scheme actuary, Investment Strategy and Research, Investment Risk Management, Employer Covenant and the Investment area.

    The Client ALM Manager will develop an in-house ALM tool. The ALM tool is aimed at providing input to strategic recommendations at section level in relation to changes to pension provisions, investment strategy, funding and regulatory framework or management framework applied to sections.

    Development of the ALM tool will require:

    • Thorough understanding of the pension provisions related to past service and potential development of pensions related to future service.
    • Understanding of regulatory and accounting frameworks applied to pensions.
    • Very good understanding of financial markets theory on a macro level.
    • Ability to structure and manage development of IT-applications.
    • Coding experience, preferably in Python.
    • Knowledge of industry best practice.

    The ALM tool should be able to support the valuation process and be able to incorporate market forecasts and investment strategy frameworks used in the valuations.

    Skills – What experience is needed

    Either actuarial background with strong bias to investment strategy work

    Or Financial background with pension client experience

    Mathematical/theoretical finance degree
