About us:

A specialist (re)insurance business in London is seeking a project finance specialist for a credit analyst role.

The Role:

To work with the team in analysing international corporate, project finance, bank, sovereign and sub-sovereign, transactional credit risk.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Be responsible for analysing risk profiles of obligors, project finance, and transactions quantitative and qualitative methods, to develop forecast scenario assumptions, and to monitor actual performance
  • Advise on risk selection, risk structuring and risk pricing in keeping with the business’ objective and portfolio goals, in a consultancy role
  • Assess and advise on individual short and long term transactional risk profiles
  • Review financial models and cash flow models as part of overall obligor or project finance analysis. Review and analyse financial information pertinent to existing and potential obligors and counterparties, as well as the company’s insureds, using established financial risk analysis techniques.
  • Assist Senior Credit Analyst to provide regular reports on economic and market developments that may impact the portfolio
  • Assist the Global CPR Head and the Regional Team Heads in optimising the CPR portfolio based on emerging risks relating to sector, obligor and geographical concentrations.
  • Investigate all available sources of credit and financial information and determine if additional information is needed to proceed with the insurance of the credit
  • Attend client meetings and risk review meetings with the members of team in an advisory and analytical capacity, where possible
  • To act in accordance with and be an advocate for the companies Principles and Values.
  • If appropriate, to manage and ensure that direct reports manage staff effectively.
  • Participate and undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally) to include attainment of associated qualifications where required.
  • Where applicable ensure company, market and client related documentation is issued (internally and externally) accurately and on time.
  • To operate as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing in the delivery and achievement of overall team and business objectives
  • Liaise with relevant and associated areas and groups within the business process to establish, support and maintain business relationships and organisational effectiveness
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature that the company reasonably requests to be performed that are within the expertise and skills of the jobholder. These may be subject to periodic review and any updates and changes to be introduced after consultation with the person concerned.

Skills & Experience:

  • Significant years of relevant credit assessment experience at a bank, rating agency or infrastructure fund, including extensive financial statement analysis. Emerging markets credit analysis experience a bonus
  • A background in project finance analysis is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of corporate investment grade / high yield / loan markets and an understanding of key issues affecting these markets, and key industry drivers
  • Educated to a degree level, or equivalent, preferably in finance or economics or related area
  • Formal credit training would be welcome

Accredited with a professional investment or accounting designation (such as the CFA or ACCA) would be welcome

  • Strong credit analysis experience in a wide range of sectors and geographies, including emerging markets
  • An understanding of economic trends and their implication on political and credit risks
  • Strong understanding of political risks and how they relate to credit risks
  • Ability to analyse transaction structures and propose risk mitigation alternatives
  • Ability to analyse complex financial models and stress test scenarios
  • High organizational skills and ability to work to a deadline with a high volume of enquiries
  • Strong decision making skills
  • Strong communication skills, both in writing and verbally
  • Strong interpersonal skills within and outside the organization
  • Quick learner

Language skills would be welcome; fluency in English a requirement
